In 2018, Liberty Global Holdings deployed Workday Absence Management as part of a wider Workday rollout across its consumer brands, implementing the solution under the Absence and Leave Management category for Virgin Media UK operations. The deployment covered England, Scotland and Wales and went live for over 13,000 staff members as one element of a global Workday program across Liberty Global entities.
The implementation included configuration and data workstreams for CoreHR, Recruitment, Talent & Performance, Absence Lite, Reward, Reporting & Analytics and Security, with the Absence Lite configuration delivering the Workday Absence Management capability. Core activities included detailed data mapping to agreed integration values, creation of CSV migration files, and rapid data validation completed within a 28 hour window using a CSV comparator tool. Security configuration was significant, with more than 12,000 security role mappings built for Virgin Media UK.
Integration architecture acknowledged existing enterprise systems, with Oracle EBS retained as the core HRIS and payroll system, Ignite used for Talent and Performance and Avature for Recruitment. Electronic Interface Builder data was used in a catch-up phase to align Workday and Oracle EBS ahead of switching on downstream integrations at go-live on 12th November 2018. The program also included selective decommissioning of a few systems and staged downstream integrations feeding from Workday.
Governance and rollout were driven by intensive test and support cycles, including System Integration Testing support for the ERP team and a tightly scoped User Acceptance Testing phase planned, designed and executed within three weeks. Defect management was handled through JIRA with coordination to a central team in the Netherlands, supported by daily and weekly defect reporting, warranty period SLAs and a formal hypercare handover to the People Systems Team. The implementation included workshops and operational guidance for HR business partners, cost centre owners, financial controllers, Employee Services and Resourcing teams.
Workday Absence Management was instrumented as part of a broader HR and payroll operating model change, with the deployment focused on operationalizing absence workflows, security and reporting across HR and Finance functions in Virgin Media UK. The project narrative highlights deep configuration, rapid data validation and tightly coordinated test, defect and hypercare governance during the 2018 rollout.

In 2019, Liberty Global Holdings deployed LivePerson Conversational Cloud to shift customer engagement toward messaging and automate care workflows. The LivePerson Conversational Cloud, classified in Chatbots and Conversational AI, was implemented as the central messaging and bot layer for customer care and contact centre interactions.
The implementation leveraged LivePerson platform capabilities to deliver two-way conversational messaging, AI-driven bots, and agent handoff workflows, enabling customers to convert voice calls into asynchronous message threads. Configuration emphasized cloud-native conversational routing, automated intent recognition, and message persistence to support ongoing case handling within customer experience operations.
Deployment initially covered six markets, going live across the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, and was rolled out across Liberty Global brands including Virgin Media, Unitymedia, UPC, and VodafoneZiggo. The Conversational Cloud integrated with existing care centre telephony and IVR contact paths to enable seamless conversion from voice to messaging, and it was scoped to expand to Liberty Global’s broader customer base of 29 million over time.
Governance aligned with Liberty Global’s digital-first care programme, instituting messaging-first contact policies and agent workflow changes to support bot-assisted conversations and escalation rules. The deployment included explicit outcomes stated by the parties, noting that companies implementing messaging have doubled agent productivity, reduced labour costs, and increased customer satisfaction, and these benefits were a stated objective for the Liberty Global rollout.
