In 2017 L'Oréal UK implemented SAP S/4 HANA for ERP Financial to consolidate core finance processes and replace SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The SAP S/4 HANA deployment was positioned to centralize financial management functions across the UK and select European operations, supporting general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed asset accounting and financial reporting capabilities within the ERP Financial category.
The implementation scope covered three large UK distribution centres and retail counters that depended on the centralized SAP infrastructure hosted in a consolidated data centre in France. The project was executed over a six month period, sequencing a Windows infrastructure migration first followed by the SAP application migration, and managed a team of 20 SAP engineers with regular reporting into the CTO and stakeholder sponsorship across seven countries.
Architecturally the program relied on a consolidated data centre model and a new virtual environment using VMware, which reduced on premises server count from 200 to 40. The SAP S/4 HANA implementation interfaced with operational tooling and services maintained by the IT organisation, including ServiceNow for support workflows, warehouse handheld barcode readers and forklift scanners, automation projects such as smart robots and pickers, and logistics provider touchpoints with XPO and AKW, while network access was supported by an EMEA Meraki WiFi refresh.
Governance combined blended Waterfall and Agile delivery methods, with scrum teams for data and analytics work streams, meticulous cutover planning to protect retail counter availability, and tightly controlled downtime windows due to high operational risk. The program completed within the stated migration window, delivered server consolidation and helped realize stated licensing and infrastructure cost reductions from concurrent projects, while maintaining ongoing liaison between the UK IT technical team and country CIOs.

The deployment used a centralized SAP HCM instance with country specific localization and parameterization to balance standardization and statutory requirements across 34 countries. Data and process flows were structured to consolidate compensation, budget and personnel cost trend information for HR and finance reporting and planning.
Governance was organized around centralized templates with local configuration, documented approval workflows for compensation decisions, and controls for budget reconciliation and auditability. Rollout and operationalization emphasized local HR enablement, role based approval processes and embedded reporting to maintain consistent Compensation Management practices across the regional footprint.

The SAP ERP ECC 6.0 - Credit Management implementation was scoped to manage the order to cash cycle for roughly 2,000 customer accounts across the UK and Ireland, with operational staffing in Dublin and London and governance tied to Customer Care leadership.
The implementation focused on core credit control capabilities, including credit risk review workflows, credit and reference checks, aged debt monitoring and collections orchestration. Configuration included order form management processes that sustained a 98 percent order accuracy service rate, and a direct debit collection mechanism that was introduced and adopted by 65 percent of accounts.
Over time the ECC credit management deployment was extended with complementary SAP modules and scheduling functionality, notably a rollout of SAP Calendar for order management covering 500 accounts, SAP FSCM for credit control in January 2011, and SAP C3 for customer service in January 2012. Operational extensions included a telesales function embedded within Customer Care to manage a 300 account segment and targeted customer satisfaction measurement executed in January 2011.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical rollout, with team restructuring, new work practices, and monthly KPI scorecards to manage collections and service performance. Explicit outcomes recorded during the supported period include a reduction in aged debt from 20 percent to 8 percent over two years, sustained order accuracy at 98 percent, and broad adoption of direct debit, demonstrating tightened credit controls and operationalized collections workflows under the Credit Union Management implementation.
