| SAP | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | n/a | 2015 | 2015 |
In 2015 Marks & Spencer implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its ERP Financial platform, migrating from SAP ERP ECC 6.0. The deployment was managed from the Information Management department and encompassed a portfolio of over 50 projects with a combined budget of £26m, establishing the program context for SAP S/4 HANA financial adoption.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation focused on core financial modules and transactional controls, with explicit configuration and operational ownership for budgeting including OPEX and CAPEX, quarterly forecast revisions, Chart of Accounts management, budget transfers, invoicing and period close processes. Procurement and order-to-cash touchpoints were addressed through raising purchase orders, goods receipting and actuals tracking, reflecting typical ERP Financial workflows and user proficiency with SAP financials.
Operational integration included a Demand Governance process that covered raising new demand for projects through to closure, and collaboration with external delivery firms TCS and IBM on program execution. The rollout and operational coverage centered on finance, procurement and project management functions within the Information Management organization, with SAP S/4 HANA serving as the transactional and record of account system.
Governance was formalized through an embedded stakeholder management governance process, managed portfolio roadmaps, project plans and dependency charts, and routine tracking of progress, reporting, issues, risks and variances. Financial governance responsibilities included managing all financial elements for projects, encompassing budgeting, purchase order control, goods receipting, invoicing and financial closing under the SAP S/4 HANA ERP Financial implementation.

| IBM | Legacy | IBM Tririga Real Estate Management | Facility Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2012 | 2012 |
In 2012, Marks & Spencer implemented IBM Tririga Real Estate Management as its enterprise estate management platform. The deployment focused on the Facility Management domain to centralize estate data and standardize property workflows across corporate head office functions and retail store operations.
The IBM Tririga Real Estate Management implementation consolidated a fragmented Property application landscape, following a review that identified approximately 65 property-related applications. Configuration emphasis aligned with standard Facility Management capabilities, including portfolio and lease lifecycle management, space and workplace management, maintenance and work order processing, asset register and capital project tracking, and portfolio analytics to support corporate decision making.
Integration intent centered on rationalization and centralization rather than a laundry list of point-to-point connectors, with the programme designed to provide a single authoritative estate record for Head Office and store estate teams. The project selection phase included developing a business case and leading the procurement of both the product and a delivery partner to execute the implementation across property and facilities management functions.
Governance and delivery were run from the Corporate Head of Portfolio office, using a blend of Waterfall and Agile approaches to coordinate business change, technology configuration and transition to BAU. Programme oversight included steering groups and executive review boards, with capital and operating budgets managed at the corporate IT level and a mandate to drive simplification and cost reduction across the Property group through the IBM Tririga Real Estate Management rollout.
