| Ascender | Legacy | Ascender Preceda | Core HR | HCM | n/a | 2015 | 2015 |
In 2015, MSD Australia & New Zealand implemented Ascender Preceda as its Core HR system. The deployment is accountable for the accurate processing of 150 Australian employees in the Animal Health Division and functions as the primary HR record for that business unit.
Ascender Preceda was configured to manage employee master data, payroll processing, leave and absence administration, and core HR workflows, leveraging standard Core HR capabilities such as personnel records, pay calculation, entitlement tracking, and operational reporting. The implementation was localized to meet Australian statutory payroll requirements, including taxation and superannuation rules.
Operational coverage centered on HR and payroll functions within the Animal Health Division across Australia, supporting HR administrators and payroll operators responsible for pay run preparation, validation, and employee lifecycle events. The deployment was organized to align HR administration with divisional business processes, maintaining a single source of employee information for the unit.
Governance emphasized role based access controls, payroll validation workflows, and configuration to enforce data accuracy and auditability during pay runs and leave processing. Controls and process configuration reflect typical Core HR governance patterns for mid sized business units that require strict payroll accuracy and compliance.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP APO | Demand Forecasting and Planning, Advanced Planning and Scheduling | SCM | n/a | 2020 | 2020 |
In 2020, MSD Australia & New Zealand implemented SAP APO for Demand Forecasting and Planning,Advanced Planning and Scheduling to support Demand and Supply Planning and Logistics across its ANZ market. The deployment centered on SAP APO DP as the core demand planning engine, integrated in the environment alongside Kinaxis Rapid Response and SAP MM and IM modules, to provide statistical forecasting and supply orchestration.
SAP APO DP configurations produced 0 to 36 month forecast models and monthly unconstrained consensus forecasts using statistical modelling, with maintained demand parameters for baseline, upside and downside scenarios. Functional capabilities implemented include demand modelling, SKU maintenance, promotion forecast incorporation, product lifecycle management from new launch to deletion, and short horizon order fulfillment planning for 0 to 12 weeks.
Operational integrations connected SAP APO with Commercial, Brand Marketing, Quality and Operations stakeholders to feed business intelligence into forecasts and drive MRP and production planning. The implementation supported Distribution and Logistics activities including inbound shipment coordination with global freight forwarders, cold chain management compliance, month end stock reconciliation and local return and credit claim approvals.
Governance and process changes were formalised through monthly Sales and Operations Planning reviews to build consensus action plans, an escalation workflow for forecast fluctuations and regulatory or promotional drivers, and a CAPA process for partner and supplier performance deviations. The Demand, Supply Planning and Logistics function served as the primary contact for Demand Planners and Site Planners to manage exceptions and align inventory allocation decisions at item class and supply node level.
Explicit outcomes reported in the operational notes include avoided financial loss by minimising out of stock, excess inventory and discards, and ensured compliance with Global Logistics guidelines and cold chain standards. SAP APO was used as the central application to link forecast demand to MRP, production planning and financial forecasting for MSD Australia & New Zealand.
