In 2018, METAWATER Co. implemented Oracle Analytics Cloud as the analytics platform for its Water Business Cloud, cataloged under Analytics and BI. METAWATER is a manufacturer and systems integrator for water and wastewater treatment equipment, and WBC is deployed to visualize facility operation status, support wide area monitoring, and improve operational efficiency for water utilities and public water supply stakeholders.
Oracle Analytics Cloud was used to provide visualization, self-service BI, and dashboarding capabilities for exploratory analysis and root cause investigation. The company executed a proof of concept that highlighted the intuitive interface and wide variety of visual display functions in Oracle Analytics Cloud, and planned dashboard UI verifications for WBC asset management and facility maintenance, with future intent to extend analytics into machine learning and automated information analysis.
The implementation architecture aggregated operational data into Oracle Database Cloud and connected that store to Oracle Analytics Cloud for secure visualization and analysis. Data sources explicitly included WBC IoT elements such as on-site sensors and routers, carrier communication networks, cloud service telemetry, and external datasets including weather, event schedules, and base station locations, and the PoC validated combining these signals to support on-site decision making.
METAWATER’s 2017 PoC targeted reducing service personnel dispatches by improving failure identification accuracy, and in that work Oracle Analytics Cloud demonstrated ease of data connection and visualization while also surfacing data quality gaps. Identified governance actions included the need to define data quality rules, decisions on granularity and accuracy, and technology for processing external open data, and METAWATER continued PoC activities into FY2018 to iterate dashboards, visualize inspections and emergency maintenance, and drive operational awareness that supports cost reduction and efficiency goals.
