In 2015, Michael Baker International implemented IBM Maximo 7.6 as its Enterprise Asset Management application. The deployment prioritized materials and inventory master data management inside IBM Maximo to support engineering, field services, and procurement functions.
Implementation work focused on master data verification and standardization, including obtaining specific material line item details through Maximo-driven verification, measurement, and research of procurement specifications. The project used the current materials inventory list to segregate and group material line items by assumed function, and applied commodity groups and codes to material records to improve classification and searchability within IBM Maximo.
A predefined process was applied to assign multi-functional unique material reference numbers to each material line item and to standardize item descriptions in a logical noun, modifier, attributes sequence so technical information was consistently captured in IBM Maximo. Operational ownership included a Database Administrator in Balad, Iraq who reviewed identified material line items against existing records to avoid duplicate entries, reinforcing materials master governance and data stewardship across inventory, procurement, and maintenance business functions.
