In 2016, MusclePharm implemented Oracle NetSuite ERP to centralize ERP Financial operations and transactional accounting. The Oracle NetSuite ERP deployment was used to manage full cycle Accounts Payable processes and general ledger controls, with explicit processing of over 500 invoices monthly through a combination of Concur and NetSuite workflows.
The implementation covered core functional modules including Accounts Payable, General Ledger accounting, inventory invoice and purchase order processing, three way matching against bill of lading, month end accruals and journal entry creation, fixed asset and prepaid account reconciliation, and payment processing including wire template creation. Oracle NetSuite ERP was configured for coding, entry, check runs and posting of payments, and the team performed ongoing review of cost and pricing for inventory items within the system.
Integrations included Concur for invoice capture and check runs and bank channel templates for wire processing, supporting vendor statement maintenance and cash disbursement workflows. Operational coverage spanned finance and accounting functions with touchpoints into procurement and inventory operations, and routine correspondence with executives to obtain approvals for invoices and cash disbursements.
Governance and process changes were formalized through a maintained approval spreadsheet used to process more than 500 invoices monthly, monthly balance sheet reviews, GL validation in NetSuite, reconciliations of prepaid, fixed asset and expense accounts, and the creation and implementation of an invoice approval workflow in NetSuite in collaboration with IT. Internal controls were documented and enforced per company policy, with ongoing updates to procedures as needed.
