In 2018 myGP integrated the NHS API under the Generative AI Platforms category to connect its patient portal to national NHS authentication and app services. myGP secured NHS Digital assurance for this integration, establishing formal governance and compliance alignment with national technical standards. The implementation targeted primary care in England and was designed to surface appointment booking, prescription ordering and record access within the myGP application.
The NHS API integration delivered functional modules for appointment booking, prescription ordering and read access to patient records, all exposed through the myGP user interface. myGP integrated NHS Login and NHS App APIs to authenticate patients and to broker transactions with practice systems, enabling digital transactions across GP networks. The integration architecture emphasized API orchestration and transactional workflows aligned with primary care operations.
Operational coverage extended across practices using EMIS and later SystmOne, expanding myGP reach into a broader set of clinical systems and enabling access for millions of patients across primary care in England. Governance included NHS Digital assurance which supported staged rollout into EMIS practices first and validation for SystmOne integration later. Business functions impacted included patient access, appointment management, prescription workflow and primary care digital engagement.
