NHS Technographics
Discover the latest software purchases and digital transformation initiatives being undertaken by NHS and its business and technology executives. Each quarter our research team identifies on-prem and cloud applications that are being used by the 1297455 NHS employees from the public (Press Releases, Customer References, Testimonials, Case Studies and Success Stories) and proprietary sources.
During our research, we have identified that NHS has purchased the following applications: Collibra Data Intelligence Platform for Analytics and BI in 2020, Microsoft Azure Cloud Services for Application Hosting and Computing Services in 2016, Ionic Secure Storage for Apps Development in 2016 and the related IT decision-makers and key stakeholders.
Our database provides customer insight and contextual information on which enterprise applications and software systems NHS is running and its propensity to invest more and deepen its relationship with Collibra , Microsoft , Palantir Technologies or identify new suppliers as part of their overall Digital and IT transformation projects to stay competitive, fend off threats from disruptive forces, or comply with internal mandates to improve overall enterprise efficiency.
We have been analyzing NHS revenues, which have grown to $200.00 billion in 2024, plus its IT budget and roadmap, cloud software purchases, aggregating massive amounts of data points that form the basis of our forecast assumptions for NHS intention to invest in emerging technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, IoT, Blockchain, Autonomous Database or in cloud-based ERP, HCM, CRM, EPM, Procurement or Treasury applications.

| Collibra | Legacy | Collibra Data Intelligence Platform | Analytics and BI | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2020 | 2020 | In 2020, NHS implemented Collibra Data Intelligence Platform to provide centralized metadata management within its Analytics and BI environment. The Collibra Data Intelligence Platform was adopted as a core component of a greenfield DPS evolution programme aimed at creating a user centric data analytical platform and a National Trusted Research Environment for NHSD partners. The implementation integrated Collibra for organization wide metadata governance, cataloging, and stewardship alongside an architectural pattern that included Data Vault modelling for scalable clinical trials reporting. Configuration focused on metadata management capabilities, data lineage, business glossary and stewardship workflows, coupled with attribute level access controls to support secure analytical processes. Deployment architecture was hosted on AWS and integrated with Databricks E2 for analytics compute, Immuta for attribute level data controls, and GitLab driven CI CD pipelines for secure delivery and operational consistency. Operational scope targeted the NHSD Data Managers directorate and national research partners, supporting clinical trials reporting through the DigiTrials programme and the broader National TRE concept. Governance changes emphasized empowering Data Managers to be autonomous stewards, embedding Collibra driven workflows into existing data manager processes and instrumenting auditing, logging and monitoring to maintain a secured data safe haven. A principal data consultant functioned as supportive architect and technical lead during the programme, guiding configuration choices and ensuring the Collibra Data Intelligence Platform aligned with privacy controls and partner access requirements. | |

| Ionic | Legacy | Ionic Secure Storage | Apps Development | PaaS | n/a | 2016 | 2016 | In 2016, the NHS deployed Ionic Secure Storage at Leicestershire Partnership Trust to support field-worker applications such as the Health Visitor Diary and LLR WiFi, delivering offline access to case notes, scheduling, and secure token-based access. This implementation sits within the Apps Development category and was scoped to improve field productivity for health visitors and community care teams across Trust community sites. The implementation leveraged Ionic Secure Storage capabilities to provide encrypted local snapshots of case notes and token lifecycle management for authenticated sessions, enabling offline read and write workflows with deferred synchronization. Configuration emphasized secure token handling and local data protection, with client-side caching and controlled sync logic consistent with mobile Apps Development patterns for healthcare field apps. Operational integration focused on connecting mobile clients to electronic case note repositories and scheduling systems through authenticated sync endpoints, preserving data confidentiality while enabling intermittent connectivity for field staff. The deployment ran on Trust-managed mobile devices used by community teams in the United Kingdom, with synchronization aligning with central clinical systems to reconcile offline updates when connectivity resumed. Governance concentrated on device-level encryption, secure token policies, and clinical IT oversight to align offline access with NHS data protection expectations. The narrative centers on Ionic Secure Storage providing the Apps Development primitives for secure offline snapshots and token-based access, supporting field productivity and offline data protection for the Leicestershire Partnership Trust deployment. | |
