In 2019 NiSource implemented Oracle PeopleSoft ERP in the ERP Financial category as a Financial Transactional Hub focused on General Ledger and Accounts Payable. The deployment anchored on PeopleSoft Financials 9.1 with PeopleTools 8.5x, reporting through BI Publisher and nVision, and an Oracle database tier including Oracle 11g to support transactional processing and reporting.
The implementation followed a RICEFW methodology during the ADM lifecycle, with design and development of Application Engine programs, Component Interfaces, PS Query driven interfaces, and file layouts to meet financial operational requirements. Teams converted chart of accounts mappings and designed conversion programs to convert Legacy system data to PeopleSoft 9.1 CoA, built Accounting Entry and Journal Generator templates, and developed custom allocation processing to automate allocation steps.
Integration work included developing Web services and Integration Broker service operations, Application Packages, and Excel to CI templates to integrate upstream systems with PeopleSoft GL and AP. Reporting and analytics work converted Crystal reports to BI Publisher and extended nVision layouts to support month end and transactional reporting, while interfaces used Application Engine and file-based loads for batch inbound processing.
Governance emphasized formal requirement gathering, functional and technical design specifications, quality management reviews, testing of PeopleSoft technical objects, and creation of deployment and application management documentation. Review sessions and adherence to standards were used to control RICEFW deliverables and support the finance teams responsible for transactional processing within NiSource.

Benefits integrations design was a defined workstream, creating interfaces between Workday Benefits and six external vendor relationships to support vendor feeds, enrollment transmissions, and deduction updates. Reporting requirements were translated into configured Workday reports and extract patterns to support benefits audits and analytics performed by the internal team.
Operational governance was led by the Manager, Health and Welfare Benefits Administration acting as SME, managing a team of two analysts who run day to day administration, deduction audits, annual enrollment support, and detailed inquiries. The role collaborated with senior leaders to define and implement strategic plan changes, liaised with six vendors to maintain contract and program alignment, and monitored federal and state law changes to ensure benefits compliance across NiSource.
