In 2012, Northern Trust Company Limited deployed Bloomberg AIM within a Portfolio and Investment Management implementation to onboard a large London based asset manager to Northern Trust’s Middle Office platform. The engagement focused on operational oversight and coordination of Middle Office and Operational Readiness work streams, with the portfolio of assets primarily comprised of fixed income and exchange traded derivatives.
As lead business analyst for the Middle Office and Operational Readiness work streams I coordinated internal and external teams to define and document requirements for interfaces, trade file specifications, front office reconciliations and reporting. Bloomberg AIM was used to configure reconciliation workflows and portfolio management related processes, with current state analysis and gap identification informing the target operating model and the documented processes and procedures.
I worked closely with Bloomberg AIM and the client to ensure that interfaces and front office reconciliations were developed to meet client requirements, while managing the reporting work stream to identify and agree all stakeholder reporting needs. Teams spanned Fund Accounting, Transfer Agency, Depository, Client Services, Custody and Compliance across EMEA, and coordination focused on aligning data flows, reconciliation rules and the specifications required for any technology builds to deliver agreed reporting outputs.
Governance activity included designing and agreeing the target operating model, communicating new processes and procedures, and coordinating Go Live readiness across the multi function teams. The approach was reused on subsequent client on boards where I led middle office work streams for portfolios including listed securities, equity, fixed income, exchange traded derivatives, foreign exchange, investment trusts and funds, with emphasis on interface requirements, reconciliations and bespoke client configuration.
