In 2022, Novolex implemented IBM Cognos Analytics to centralize reporting and support a consolidated planning cadence, deploying the solution as part of an Analytics and BI initiative. The deployment was aligned with a unified forecast model and a monthly production planning cycle, and the company also selected IBM Planning Analytics to connect disparate systems onto a single analytics platform and support consolidated forecasting workflows.
Integration work focused on connecting IBM Cognos Analytics to the company wide data sources and the various ERP systems used at different sites, with Converge Technology Solutions acting as the IBM Business Partner to lead implementation, development check ins and issue resolution. Converge collaborated with IBM to ensure platform readiness and to adapt the analytics design to manufacturing business needs, enabling consistent site level reporting and shared visibility across plant operations.
Process and governance changes accompanied the technical rollout, Novolex consolidated multiple forecasting processes into one standardized review, forecast and update process, and standardized metrics to create a single source of truth for planning. Deployment was executed in phases to drive adoption, the supply chain organization assumed responsibility for forecasting metrics and governance, and the new cadence enabled more frequent reviews and updates than the prior annual cycle.
Outcomes cited by Novolex include an 83 percent reduction in forecast cycle time, shrinking a previously six week process to less than one week, and approximately a 16 percent improvement in inventory position. Novolex reports that data can be processed in hours with two days allocated for analysis and review, and the company plans a next phase to extend the IBM Cognos Analytics implementation with predictive analytics to broaden forecasting factors and forward looking scenario planning.
