In 2022, Opera deployed Nexway Monetize Subscription and Billing to manage Subscription and Recurring Billing for its Opera VPN Pro offering. The implementation established a platform-level billing and subscription management capability to support activated-trial acquisition models and to centralize premium user monetization across devices.
Nexway Monetize Subscription and Billing was configured to provide core subscription management and payment orchestration, combined with fraud prevention controls and customer care support. Configuration work focused on entitlement provisioning for premium features, recurring billing cycles and payment method orchestration, as well as billing events and dunning workflows typical of Subscription and Recurring Billing applications.
Operationally Nexway was integrated as Merchant of Record and manages end to end subscription billing and payment flows for Opera, including payment processing, fraud screening and customer service touchpoints. The scope of the deployment covered global subscription management for Opera VPN Pro, enabling unified handling of payments and chargeback risk while preserving localized payment method and tax considerations.
Governance and operational ownership were aligned to payments, customer care and monetization teams, with processes updated to support activated trials and automated billing transitions. The implementation delivered measurable uplifts in trial to paid conversion and monthly retention as reported by the vendor, while concurrently centralizing fraud prevention and customer support workflows under the Nexway platform.

The implementation emphasized client-side key control and lightweight client architecture to scale wallet activations and transaction volumes while maintaining on-chain settlement. Reported outcomes included multi-million wallet activations and hundreds of millions of transactions processed using Celo’s low-fee settlement.
Governance and rollout prioritized mobile onboarding workflows, wallet lifecycle procedures, and app-level transaction orchestration on the Blockchain Platform. Operational teams iterated on monitoring and wallet management processes to support rapid expansion and high-frequency micro-transactions on the Celo Blockchain.
