In 2019 Orion Group Holdings began planning and initiating an implementation of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. The deployment focused on ERP Financial capabilities to consolidate Accounting, Finance, Tax and HR Payroll business functions while aligning customer engagement with Dynamics 365 CE CRM functionality.
The implementation used Sure-Step methodology and was executed with a Microsoft Gold partner, with the Sr. ERP Project Manager leading PMO activities for Accounting, Finance, Tax and HR Payroll workstreams. Functional configuration and modules implemented emphasized core finance and tax controls, payroll and HR integrations, and CRM alignment, alongside standard Finance and Operations configuration tasks such as data migration mapping, test planning, and cutover sequencing.
Operational tooling and integrations were managed through the partner’s DevOps environment to trace requirements gaps, schedules and team assignments, and the project maintained formal artifacts including management level charters, decision forms for third party software, weekly status reports and resource plans. The Sr. ERP Project Manager facilitated cross-workstream coordination, mentoring of junior team members, and produced governance outputs to support enterprise rollout across Orion Group Holdings sites and departments.
Rollout governance included detailed strategy plans for data migration, testing and integrations, with an expected go-live ETA early 2022. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations served as the central ERP Financial platform, and project documentation captured integration points, testing scope and change control requirements to support the cutover timeline.

The move impacted HR and finance coordination, payroll processing, workforce timekeeping, and field administration by unifying record management and access for distributed worksites.
Governance and process changes focused on centralized administration under Corporate HR and reduced manual reconciliation between systems. According to CFO Chris DeAlmeida, "Orion was looking for a fully integrated HCM suite that would accommodate Orion's future growth and expansion," and the ADP Vantage HCM deployment was positioned to drive operational efficiency and enable field access to critical information.
