In 2014 Peel Ports Group implemented Infor SunSystems as its core ERP Financial application to centralize billing and financial accounting across its port operations. The deployment positioned Infor SunSystems to support the Billing Team responsible for steel related charges across Mersey and all charges across the Port of Sheerness, and to standardize invoice processing and financial postings within tight operational timescales.
Infor SunSystems was configured to support accounts receivable workflows, charge processing and bank reconciliation activities, with transaction controls and GL posting validation to surface mis-postings. The implementation emphasized billing workflow automation and reconciling procedures, enabling the Billing Team to perform bank reconciliations that highlight mis-postings and other exceptions, and to maintain timely charge capture and invoice issuance.
The financial application operated alongside other billing and operations systems used in the business, including N4 Billing, Porthos and MRI, forming the financial hub for charge capture and revenue accounting across sites. Operational coverage was focused on port billing and finance functions, with the Billing Team liaising across multiple business areas to ensure processes were followed correctly and within required timelines.
Governance and process changes were driven through representation of the Billing Team in internal meetings and by supporting wider IT and process projects, using domain knowledge of billing and reconciliation to influence configuration and workflow decisions. The workstream encompassed issue escalation, policy alignment for charge treatment and ongoing support for billing-related process improvements within the Peel Ports Group finance organization.

Integrations were implemented as interfaces to payroll and timesheet submission processes to align transactional updates with pay runs and benefit administration.
