In 2008, QNB Finansbank deployed Oracle GoldenGate to support Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL),Data Replication use cases across its mission critical banking landscape, establishing real time change data capture and continuous replication to feed archiving and enterprise data warehouse pipelines. Oracle GoldenGate was positioned as the core replication engine and reiterated in operational documentation as the primary data movement layer for archival and EDW ingestion.
The implementation operated within a centralized DBA team responsible for high performance and high availability of Core Banking, Payment, Collection, CRM and EDW databases, with 7/24 database support to ensure continuous operations. Administration covered three disaster recovery center locations plus development, test, pre production, user acceptance and education environments, aligning GoldenGate replication topologies to each environment for consistent data movement and validation.
Oracle GoldenGate was configured and administered as an archiving solution and as a datawarehouse ETL tool, implementing change data capture streams, replication pipelines and downstream staging feeds. Oracle Data Integrator was used in tandem for data transformation for the EDW and data exchange across different platforms, creating a hybrid pipeline where GoldenGate supplies near real time change sets and ODI performs transformation and load logic for reporting and analytics.
The underlying infrastructure included administration and build out of Oracle 10g, 11g and 12c RAC databases across Linux, AIX, HP UX, Solaris and Exadata X4 and X6 2 platforms, with ASM migrations, RAC migration projects, performance tuning and capacity planning. Operational oversight extended to Hadoop, Cassandra, MongoDB and MySQL systems, and automation and maintenance tooling was implemented using Python, Perl and shell scripting to support replication monitoring, alerting and capacity management.
Governance and operational controls followed Cobit and ITIL standards to meet SOX compliance requirements, with RAT and SPA tools applied during upgrades and hardware migration projects to detect performance issues ahead of production cutovers. Workstreams were managed under a project management model for migrations, upgrades, consolidation and archiving, while the infrastructure and data architecture function drove POCs, security and compliance frameworks and exploration of NoSQL and containerization use cases.
