In 2015 Rapha implemented Avalara AvaTax to automate sales tax across its global commerce operations. The Tax Management deployment addressed complex cross-border VAT and sales tax calculations driven by rapid ecommerce growth and online sales across Europe, North America, and APAC.
The implementation configured Avalara AvaTax for automated transaction-level tax calculation inside Rapha's SAP Hybris Omni-channel Commerce Cloud, leveraging a prebuilt certified integration to calculate and apply the correct tax at checkout. Rapha also deployed Avalara AvaTax Returns to consolidate jurisdictional liabilities into a single combined worksheet and to file returns with one click where supported.
Operational coverage focused on the ecommerce platform and supported trading, finance, tax compliance, technology, and customer service functions, aligning with Rapha's footprint of 21 clubhouse hubs in 11 countries and revenue concentration in mainland Europe, the US and APAC. Tax calculation workflows were instrumented to run in real time at point of sale and to surface tax outcomes into finance and reporting processes.
Governance and process changes emphasized automation to reduce manual processing burden on the finance team and to increase responsiveness to customers, enabling the company to enter new markets and channels with greater confidence. During the COVID-19 ecommerce surge Rapha reported reduced workload for finance and simpler reporting, with Avalara AvaTax trusted to charge customers the correct sales tax and to streamline returns processing.
