In 2017 Rio Tinto implemented FIS Integrated Payables as its AP Automation platform. The deployment addressed enterprise accounts payable functions typical for AP Automation, including automated invoice capture, matching and approval workflows, supplier onboarding and payment file orchestration, configured to support a global finance organization operating across multiple regions. FIS Integrated Payables was positioned to centralize payables processing, standardize controls and reduce manual touchpoints across procurement and finance functions.
Implementation activity ran alongside a parallel treasury program where Rio Tinto appointed Treasury Management System subject matter experts for the selection, design, build and implementation of FIS Quantum from April 2017 to September 2018 in London and Singapore. Governance emphasized centralized process control, standardized AP workflows and exception handling, with configuration workstreams focused on payments orchestration, supplier data governance and alignment with corporate cash management practices. The program scope covered operational finance, procurement and treasury coordination, reflecting an enterprise approach to payables and cash operations integration.

| Hitachi Vantara | Legacy | Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite | Asset Performance Management | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2011 | 2012 |
In 2011, Rio Tinto implemented Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as its Asset Performance Management solution for the Pilbara power network. The deployment focused on the power system that supports over 450 MW of generation, approximately 800 km of 220 kV transmission, two ports, seven major mining operations and several towns, and centered on operations from the Remote Operations Centre in Perth.
The Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite implementation concentrated on asset performance workflows typical for Asset Performance Management, including condition based monitoring, load and fuel forecasting, and dispatch support with operator visualization. Configuration tasks included creation of new operator screens, in-system calculations for base, production and spot load models, and automation of forecasting inputs to support generation dispatch decisions.
Integration work connected the application to the on-premise SCADA environment, which had been upgraded from a Citect based system to ABB Network Manager, and the validated load forecasting model was integrated with SCADA. Outputs from a neural network forecasting program were fed into operational screens and dispatch workflows so that Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite could inform real time dispatch and longer term fuel consumption forecasts across the network.
Operational governance and process changes were driven by the 24/7 power system operations team, who led defect elimination, produced operator training, coordinated switching programs and developed emergency response procedures to align with the new APM workflows. The implementation explicitly supported improved real time dispatch and improved long term forecasting of fuel consumption, while ongoing fuel management practices were used to minimize a stated $100 million fuel budget.
