In 2018, Rumpke implemented SAP S/4 HANA alongside ISB Global’s Waste & Recycling One as part of an ERP Financial initiative. The project was launched through a strategic partnership with ISB Global and used a refactored Waste & Recycling One solution built on the OutSystems low code platform, with Rumpke purchasing OutSystems to support ongoing application development and deployment.
The deployment embedded modules for operational planning, execution, tracking variance, confirmation and accounting cycles, and automated core accounting workflows within the combined solution. Waste & Recycling One was advanced into a mobile and web innovations suite, and four Safety Apps were refactored onto the OutSystems platform to unify field safety, operations, and administrative capabilities.
Architecturally the program followed a bi-modal approach, Mode 1 as the SAP digital core using SAP S/4 HANA and Mode 2 as a low code aPaaS on OutSystems, with Waste & Recycling One integrated to SAP S/4 HANA to synchronize operational and financial data. The integration pattern supported IoT and remote asset data capture, application-level business logic on the OutSystems layer, and published, eye-readable application artifacts to enable transparency and faster extension of the digital layer.
Governance and rollout emphasized sector-specific process refactoring, industry best practices and coordinated change communications between Rumpke and ISB Global. The joint implementation prepared the organization for go-live and support, extending software-driven control across operations, finance, materials management, safety and analytics within Rumpke’s Mid-West service footprint.

In 2021, Rumpke deployed DocuSign eSignature as a Digital Signing capability on its public website to capture electronic signatures for customer interactions. Rumpke uses DocuSign eSignature to place signing workflows at the application layer of its web presence, making DocuSign eSignature the primary digital signature method for online forms and service authorizations.
The implementation leverages standard eSignature functional components such as reusable envelope templates, recipient routing and authentication controls, embedded signing sessions for browser-based completion, and audit trail capture. Configuration emphasis is on template governance and consistent branding across web flows, with administrative controls to manage signer roles and access to the template library.
Operationally the solution is embedded into customer-facing web workflows to support online consent and authorization capture, aligning Digital Signing with Rumpke business functions that require signed authorizations. Governance and process changes center on a centralized template management model, role based access for administrators and signers, and retention of electronic audit records to support signature provenance and compliance.
