Workato Legacy Workato Intelligent Process Automation AI-Powered Application n/a 2023 2024
In 2023 SafetyCulture deployed Workato as an Intelligent Process Automation platform to orchestrate Finance and RevOps workflows. The initiative originated from Engineering needs to reduce point to point integration effort and to enable non-engineers to automate processes, with Finance Operations and RevOps identified as initial operational scopes. Workato was configured to use prebuilt connectors and visual recipe development to implement orchestration capabilities, including invoice enrichment workflows and AI agent capabilities. The implementation leverages Workato Automation HQ as the governance model, and Workato's Agentic AI capabilities were used to prototype CPQ Genie on Salesforce CPQ, aligning with standard Intelligent Process Automation functional terminology such as orchestration, recipe-based automation, and automation governance. Integrations included a Workato SAP certified connector to connect SAP ERP with product and billing systems, and connectors layered against Salesforce CPQ and the SafetyCulture application stack to enrich invoices and automate quote accuracy checks. The architecture emphasized API management, universal connectors, and built-in observability to securely manage API keys and provide end to end lifecycle oversight for integrations. Governance and rollout were structured through Automation HQ, with Engineering mentoring Finance Operations to enable citizen builders and to maintain secure controls over sensitive finance data. Workflows implemented include complex business logic, human decision points, and exception handling, enabling Finance to prototype and iterate without heavy engineering lift. Documented outcomes from the deployment include 10x faster build cycles compared with prior timelines, a reduction from multi month engineering builds to process mapping in weeks and automation delivery in a week or less, and operational benefits such as enriched invoices that accelerate customer payment processing and improve cash flow. The SafetyCulture Workato Intelligent Process Automation deployment also delivered robust governance and broadened the number of teams able to build and maintain automations.
