SAP Legacy SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence Manufacturing Execution System ERP Services and Operations n/a 2016 2016
In 2016, Sappi Southern Africa implemented SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence, using the Manufacturing Execution System to consolidate dispersed manufacturing data and improve visibility into production costs. The deployment targeted eight paper, pulp, and packaging mills in Southern Africa, including Enstra, Ngodwana, Cape Kraft, Tugela, Saiccor, Stanger, Adamas, and Usutu, aligning manufacturing operations with centralized reporting and cost analysis workflows. The implementation configured SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence to perform real time data aggregation from plant systems, KPI consolidation, and unified process visibility across production lines. The project followed a two step integration approach, concentrating first on data consolidation and then on delivering standardized operational dashboards and contextualized cost reporting for business users. From an integration perspective the Manufacturing Execution System bridged a patchwork of older and in house developed applications and best of breed systems, simplifying complex webs of interfacing between plant and enterprise systems. Operational coverage included production and operations teams, with outputs routed to finance and management reporting to support production cost transparency and consistent KPI consumption across sites. Governance and process changes were led by Business Process Engineer Joanne Boyd and the integration project team, who established standardized KPI definitions and centralized reporting workflows to eliminate conflicting spreadsheet based interpretations. The program emphasized data stewardship, a single source of truth for production metrics, and role based access to consolidated dashboards to support downstream decision making. The deployment of SAP Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence gave Sappi Southern Africa increased visibility into production costs and enabled more meaningful reporting across its mills, while reducing the manual effort previously required to assemble data from multiple systems. The Manufacturing Execution System implementation directly addressed data silos and inconsistent KPI values, positioning operational and financial stakeholders to consume a consistent set of manufacturing metrics.
