Snowflake Legacy Snowflake Data Warehouse Data Warehouse Analytics and BI n/a 2020 2020
In 2020, Saxo Bank implemented Snowflake Data Warehouse to provide elastic, cloud-native data infrastructure and overcome scaling constraints in its trading and analytics platforms. Saxo Bank operated an on-premises data warehouse based on SQL Server and faced rapidly growing volumes from global operations spanning 180 countries, 67.1 million trades in 2020, and 40,000 tradable instruments, driving the need for an enterprise Data Warehouse that could serve analytics, risk and compliance workloads without large increases in headcount. The Snowflake Data Warehouse deployment emphasized separation of compute and storage, instant elastic scaling, and low operational overhead to support structured and semi-structured financial data. Saxo configured workloads across data engineering, data lake and data warehouse patterns, and provisioned capabilities for data science and data applications, leveraging Snowflake features including Zero-Copy Cloning and Time Travel to accelerate development, testing and historical analysis. Operational integrations and coverage reflect Saxo Bank’s global, partner-driven model, including secure data distribution to white-label partner banks. The bank currently sends 35,000 csv files per day via SFTP and is positioned to shift to Snowflake Secure Data Sharing and the Snowflake Data Marketplace to reduce file transfer complexity and security exposure. The Snowflake Data Warehouse serves analytics, risk monitoring and product teams across the organization and enables rapid provisioning of data environments for AI and advanced analytics use cases. Governance was implemented using Snowflake native governance capabilities to enable autonomous teams while maintaining centralized control for compliance across multiple jurisdictions. Reported outcomes include faster time to insight, the ability to pursue near real-time risk monitoring, increased agility for data teams, and continued customer growth without a proportional expansion in personnel to meet regulatory demands.
