In 2016 Sensirion implemented SAP Manufacturing Execution as its Manufacturing Execution System to manage wafer sensor fabrication workflows. The SAP Manufacturing Execution deployment focused on production on 8 inch wafers and targeted cleanroom production lines including lithography, chemistry and inspection process areas.
Configuration and functional modules centered on process order management and work instruction management, with operators creating, editing and completing process orders and writing and revising work instructions. The implementation supported operator and shift management capabilities, including allocation of employees to individual machines and clean rooms, planning weekly output and managing absences, aligned to shop floor control and production scheduling workflows.
Operational coverage included cleanroom operators and shift managers at Sensirion AG, the chemistry and safety department, lithography system operations and inspection and probing under the microscope, and routine first level support for plasma and lithography equipment. The Manufacturing Execution System governed daily production activities, quality inspection steps and the coordination between production, safety and maintenance functions within the fabrication site.
Governance and workflow changes were implemented at the supervisor level, with shift supervisors using SAP Manufacturing Execution for employee allocation, process order governance and revision of work instructions, and conducting employee discussions tied to operational schedules. The system established formalized shop floor procedures and work instruction controls to standardize execution across chemistry, lithography and inspection operations.
