In 2013 Shelter Insurance implemented Workday Financial Management, moving core accounting and financial close processes into the cloud under the ERP Financial category. The deployment replaced an SAP ERP ECC 6.0 footprint for finance and established a single-system foundation that later enabled combined HR and financial workflows.
The Workday Financial Management implementation centralized general ledger, budgeting, and reporting capabilities, and Shelter built role-based reports for roughly 200 budget managers to drill into cost center spend by account and category. Workday Financial Management served as the authoritative financial ledger that supported self-service analysis, reduced dependence on external queries, and simplified reconciliation for the accounting organization.
Shelter subsequently deployed Workday Human Capital Management and Workday Prism Analytics, integrating HR processes with the financial ledger to unify data across payroll, recruiting, compensation, onboarding, absence, and time tracking. The HCM modules were configured so onboarding, recruiting, and compensation were tied together for new hires, with absence, time tracking, and payroll coming live shortly after, creating an operational platform spanning accounting, HR, payroll, and line managers across the company and its agent network.
Governance and process changes accompanied the technical rollout, replacing paper forms and multisignature routing with auditable, reportable workflows and an automated merit calculation process that prorates pay actions. Shelter reports improved data accuracy, faster distribution of numbers to management, and enhanced visibility for executives through dashboards and Prism Analytics, enabling finance and HR to surface detailed, drillable insights without reverting to multiple legacy query tools.
