Siemens implemented Hyland AP Automation in 2013 to consolidate invoice capture across its global shared services operations. The deployment, categorized as AP Automation, originated in Germany and scales globally to process millions of invoices through centralized capture and extraction.
The implementation used Hyland's Brainware intelligent capture to consolidate multiple OCR solutions and provide hands free document classification. Brainware intelligent capture was configured for header and line item extraction and to capture more than 50 data fields per invoice, supporting automated workflows within accounts payable.
Invoice capture was integrated with many SAP instances across Siemens' shared services landscape, enabling standardized data handoff into SAP instances for downstream AP processing. The architecture emphasizes a capture layer that delivers normalized extraction results into SAP interfaces and shared services processing queues.
Operationally the Germany and global deployment processes millions of invoices, achieving approximately 90 percent extraction without manual intervention and increasing automation in shared services by roughly 30 percent on average, up to 80 percent in some areas. Siemens' use of Hyland AP Automation centralized capture and classification, reducing reliance on multiple OCR engines and standardizing invoice data extraction.

In 2020, Siemens implemented Workday Absence Management as part of a cloud-based Workday Human Capital Management deployment. Workday Absence Management serves Siemens in the Absence and Leave Management category and was deployed alongside Workday Compensation and Workday Talent Management, with implementation support from IBM Services.
The implementation configured core absence and leave workflows and employee self-service capabilities to handle leave requests, manager approvals, and centralized entitlement rules consistent with Absence and Leave Management functionality. A Global Process Template was established to standardize absence processes across business units and to guide configuration, security roles, and approval routing.
The deployment architecture is a Workday-hosted cloud solution integrated within the broader Workday HCM suite, enabling unified master data and HR self-service access. The release is live in 35 of Siemens 95 countries and currently supports more than 40,000 employees across 35 countries, with a planned extension to more than 100,000 employees globally within the next 24 months.
Governance focused on a centralized process template and phased country rollouts, with IBM Services helping to rearchitect and streamline HCM activities for managers and employees. Siemens expects the Workday solutions to reduce HCM costs, enhance the HR experience for employees and managers, and accelerate the group’s ongoing digital transformation.

Governance and operating model changes center on a centralized Smart Infrastructure organization in Zug which orchestrates configuration, rollout sequencing and portfolio reporting across regional site teams. The deployment is positioned to centralize operational control and sustainability reporting across sites, with Siemens Building X serving as the primary portfolio management application for energy, sustainability and facility operations.
