| SAP | Legacy | SAP ERP ECC 6.0 | ERP Financial | ERP | n/a | 2010 | 2011 |
In 2010, Somerset County Council implemented SAP ERP ECC 6.0 as its ERP Financial system. The deployment is structured on SAP NetWeaver as the underlying application platform and uses SAP Solution Manager for application lifecycle and support governance.
SAP ERP ECC 6.0 at Somerset County Council is configured to run core Finance and Controlling through SAP FICO, materials and procurement processes via SAP MM, supplier management through SAP SRM, sales and distribution functions with SAP SD, project accounting and delivery with SAP PS, and human resources with SAP HRM. Business intelligence and reporting are provided by SAP Business Warehouse, which is integrated with the ECC instance for consolidated operational reporting.
Integration architecture relies on SAP Process Orchestration in place of SAP XI to handle system-to-system message orchestration and interface management, while SAP NetWeaver provides the technical stack for ABAP applications and runtime services. SAP Solution Manager is used to manage change, monitoring and support processes across finance, procurement, HR, supplier management and project functions.
Somerset County Council has explicitly indicated there are no plans to upgrade the SAP implementation, no plans to move to SAP S4 HANA, and no intention to move away from SAP. The current footprint therefore remains centered on SAP ERP ECC 6.0, SAP NetWeaver, SAP Solution Manager, SAP Process Orchestration and SAP Business Warehouse to support enterprise financial, procurement, HR and project operations.

| SAP | Legacy | SAP BW (Business Warehouse) | Data Warehouse | Analytics and BI | n/a | 2012 | 2012 |
In 2012 Somerset County Council implemented SAP BW (Business Warehouse) as a Data Warehouse to support centralized reporting for its government finance and delivery functions. The deployment emphasized SAP BW reporting tooling, with implementation work focused on query development and web reporting rather than described upstream extraction layers.
The implementation concentrated on SAP BW Query Designer and Web Application Designer to create ad hoc queries for forecast sales, budget and delivery analysis. Development used Restricted Key Figures, Calculated Key Figures, Variables, Filters and exceptions to model financial and delivery measures, and to parameterize queries for departmental planners and analysts. SAP BW (Business Warehouse) query artifacts were configured to support iterative forecasting, budget scenario comparison and delivery variance analysis through both ad hoc and web-published reports.
Operational coverage targeted finance, budget planning and delivery management teams within the council, with Web Application Designer used to package query results into stakeholder-facing web reports and dashboards. Configuration practices emphasized reusable query definitions and parameterized variables to standardize departmental reporting and control query behavior. Governance and handover activities centered on documentation of key figures and variable usage to enable ongoing ad hoc query creation by analytics teams.
