Southeastern Grocers LLC, parent company and home of BI-LO, Harveys, Winn-Dixie and Fresco y Más grocery stores, is the fifth-largest conventional supermarket chain in the U.S. and the second-largest conventional supermarket in the southeast based on store count. These subsidiaries employ more than 50,000 associates who serve customers in more than 700 grocery stores, liquor stores and in-store pharmacies.
Scope and Challenges
Southeastern Grocers were challenged with a poor candidate experience that lacked mobile optimization, preventing them from attracting talent to apply to their open requisitions. Southeastern Grocers’ HCM provider, Oracle Taleo supported their recruitment strategy at the time but lacked a mobile-optimized experience for applicants, causing many candidates to drop-off in the middle of the process. The experience was so poor that Southeastern Grocers had to invest in a call center to support frustrated candidates who had application and onboarding complications.
Schaublin and Southeastern Grocers’ HR leadership team knew that their broken recruitment process was indirectly impacting their customer service reputation, due to their HCM provider’s lack of focus on the candidate experience. Plus, their recruiting team was hindered in meeting their hiring goals. They needed a talent acquisition platform that would enable Southeastern Grocers to protect their brand reputation as an employer of choice by arming them with enhanced experiences for both the candidates and recruiters.
Outcome and Implications
Southeastern Grocers looked for a best-of-breed, recruitment focused talent acquisition platform that was committed to supporting a great experience for the candidate and their HR team alike.
Once Southeastern Grocers learned about iCIMS’ best-of-breed talent platform and its ability to integrate with their new HCM provider of choice, Oracle Taleo, they selected iCIMS to improve their candidate experience and accelerate the hiring process for their HR team.
After implementing iCIMS, Southeastern Grocers sunsetted their call center that supported frustrated candidates, reduced business data support where employees were responsible for ensuring data accuracy with their previous HCM provider and improved business decisions based off of their new reporting capabilities - enabling them to save more than $1 million in recruitment costs.
Additionally, their candidate experience greatly improved, with a decrease in application time by 94 percent. Previously concerned about their mobile experience, Southeastern Grocers tapped into iCIMS’ analytics to realize that 80 percent of applications were now completed through their new mobile-optimized career site.
