In 2017 SRF implemented Oracle Business Process Management as a strategic Business Process Management platform to centralize process controls across its chemical, specialty chemicals, technical textiles, engineering plastics and packaging films businesses. SRF operates 14 manufacturing plants in India, South Africa and Thailand and maintains an enterprise technology landscape that includes Oracle eBS R12 corporate ERP, Oracle PLM, Salesforce.com, QlikView BI, Sharepoint, Oracle ASCP, Oracle SOA, DCS and SCADA control systems along with multiple custom applications. The Oracle Business Process Management deployment was scoped to support enterprise functions that align with the corporate ERP footprint, including Financials, Manufacturing, Procurement, Sales and Marketing, Projects, Quality, Maintenance and Inventory. Implementation oversight was provided through corporate IT governance, with the AVP-IT reporting to SVP-Finance&IT and maintaining dotted-line engagement with business CEOs to align priorities and budgets.
Core functional workflows implemented in Oracle Business Process Management included automation of the credit-check process, CAPEX approvals, Engineering Work Requests EWR, master data management workflows, customer complaints and visits management, and export-import document management. These workflows were modeled using BPM process definitions and implemented using human task management, business rules and exception handling to enforce process controls and centralized execution. Oracle Business Process Management served as the control plane for approval routing, audit trails and policy-driven process behavior across the listed business processes.
Integrations were executed with named enterprise systems present in SRFs landscape, including Oracle eBS R12 for transactional and master data, Oracle SOA for service orchestration, Oracle PLM for engineering inputs, Oracle ASCP for supply chain planning feeds, Salesforce.com for commercial workflow touchpoints, QlikView BI and Sharepoint for reporting and collaboration, and plant-level DCS and SCADA systems for operational data. Oracle Business Process Management was interfaced with the ERP and SOA layers to trigger transactional updates and expose process status to BI consumers. The deployment pattern combined centralized BPM servers orchestrating services through the SOA layer with local integrations at plant sites to accept operational inputs from control systems.
Governance and rollout were managed within the corporate IT framework, with responsibilities for IT strategic and operational planning, project prioritization and budget control held by the AVP-IT and SVP-Finance&IT. Process ownership and change control were organized with functional heads in Finance, Supply Chain and Manufacturing, using Oracle Business Process Management as the platform for master data workflows and cross functional approvals. Rollout coordination and integration validation were carried out with plant IT teams across India, South Africa and Thailand to align process automation with operational constraints and compliance requirements.
