In 2022, Steel Authority of India Limited implemented HPE Superdome Flex 280 as the cornerstone of a hybrid-cloud compute architecture at its Bokaro steel plant. The HPE Superdome Flex deployment was provisioned within the Application Hosting and Computing Services environment to host mission-critical SAP workloads supporting plant operations and enterprise reporting.
The implementation configured HPE Superdome Flex to provide scale-up in-memory compute for SAP HANA and to prepare for SAP S/4HANA workloads, aligning large memory pools, persistent storage fabric, and high-availability capabilities typical of SAP production landscapes. Platform configuration included enterprise-class backup orchestration and accelerated reporting processing to meet operational SLAs.
Operational scope focused on the Bokaro plant core systems, with the infrastructure forming a hybrid-cloud layer that reduced the on-premises data-center footprint in India while retaining local compute for performance-sensitive SAP workloads. Integrations centered on the SAP stack and on backup and reporting pipelines, with the Superdome Flex serving as the primary compute tier for SAP HANA and S/4HANA database instances.
HPE Professional Services provided advisory and deployment support, leading architecture validation, system sizing, and cutover coordination across IT operations and plant application owners. The deployment accelerated reporting and backups and reduced data-center footprint, outcomes reported by Steel Authority of India Limited after the HPE Superdome Flex implementation.
