Ford Motor Company | Automotive | 175000 | $18.7B | United States | Hewlett Packard Enterprise | HPE Superdome Flex | Application Hosting and Computing Services | 2019 | n/a |
In 2019, Ford Motor Company deployed HPE Superdome Flex as the on-premise platform to host SAP S/4HANA greenfield builds and migration landscapes. The HPE Superdome Flex implementation is described within the Application Hosting and Computing Services layer and was provisioned on HPE SuperDomeFLEX hardware running SUSE Linux to support development, quality and sandbox systems for SAP.
The implementation scope included Greenfield SAP S/4HANA 1809 and 1909 landscapes and tooling stacks such as PO 7.5, BODS 4.2, NWDS, Solution Manager 7.2 with Test Suite 7.2 and CHARM, SAP Ariba, ADS 7.5, GRC 7.52, SLT 7.52, BW 7.5 and SAP BPC 10.0. Infrastructure and platform configuration work included installation and configuration of SAP HANA Cockpit 2.0 across HANA databases, LAMA 2.0 for lifecycle automation, and sizing validation using SAP HANA QuickSizer, followed by post installation tasks in development and QA landscapes.
The project executed an ECC migration path involving SAP ECC 7.6 with Oracle database to S/4HANA using SUM 2.0 with DMO for Sandbox, Development and Quality systems targeting HANA 1909. Workstreams documented include SUM installation and SUM host agent configuration, Downtime Optimization tuning for DMO, SUM error log analysis and corrective table splitting, and SUM/DMO performance tuning. Teams worked with HPE hardware resources to stand up the Superdome infrastructure and install SAP software onto the platform.
Governance and operational changes were formalized through Solution Manager 7.2 configuration including SOLMAN_SETUP, LMDB population, Test Suite 7.2 SP10 and CHARM based change management, supporting SAP Security and Development teams through Explore and Post Explore phases. Platform support responsibilities recorded in the engagement included database administration roles such as ODBA and SQL DBA, Sybase support, application support and configuration of Vertex Indirect Tax Accelerator and Vertex SIC to integrate tax processing within the SAP landscape.
