In 2023, Stonewater implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations to replace Microsoft Dynamics GP as its core financial application. The initiative was driven by Microsoft Dynamics GP moving to extended support in 2023 and a planned end of life in 2028, making replacement a priority for continuity of finance operations and project cost monitoring. This implementation positions Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as Stonewater ERP Financial system supporting the finance and project accounting function across its UK operations.
The deployment emphasized standard ERP Financial modules within Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting and forecasting, fixed assets management, procurement controls, and project accounting capabilities. Configuration work focused on ledger structure, chart of accounts alignment, budget control workflows, and cost capture for project delivery, enabling more structured financial control and reporting consistent with nonprofit fund and project accounting practices.
Operationally the rollout targeted finance and project delivery functions, with the application configured to capture system delivery and project cost details so finance can reconcile project spend and operational delivery. Integration work prioritized embedding project cost visibility into transactional finance processes and configuring reporting to support ongoing monitoring of delivery costs, while remaining within the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations architecture.
Governance for the program aligned to Stonewater finance process ownership and a prioritized timeline tied to the Microsoft Dynamics GP support lifecycle. The replacement created a modernized ERP Financial platform intended to ensure that subsequent technology changes can be measured against a system capable of properly monitoring system delivery and project costs.
