The deployment focused on establishing a unified finance backbone to support core financial management and transactional processing across corporate finance functions.
The implementation centered on configuring Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations modules for core finance, general ledger controls, accounts payable and accounts receivable, coupled with a payroll self serve capability and an expense management rollout. Configuration work included workflow automation for approvals, parameterization of chart of accounts and financial dimensions, and preparation of master data to support transactional processing and expense workflows.
Operational coverage ran across finance and payroll business functions, with the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations environment used to orchestrate financial posting, employee expense capture and payroll self service processes. The program encompassed company wide rollouts of payroll self serve and expense management, aligning transactional users and finance teams to standardized processes within the ERP Financial platform.
Governance was established through a split role model, with a Key SME responsible for Microsoft Dynamics 365 implementation and a Project Manager overseeing two large company wide projects for payroll self serve and expense management rollout. Delivery activities included configuration governance, staged rollout planning, user acceptance testing coordination and end user adoption support to embed new workflows into finance and payroll operations.

In 2018, Telstra implemented Workday Absence Management as part of its broader Workday HCM activities, establishing a centralized Absence and Leave Management capability for HR and workforce scheduling. The Workday Absence Management deployment was positioned alongside Workday Work Schedule Implementation activities to standardize leave requests, accrual calculations, absence balances, and approval workflows across the organization.
The implementation encompassed configuration of core absence modules and time off request flows, integration of leave accrual and eligibility rules, and configuration of work schedules to drive accurate absence entitlements. Workday Absence Management was configured to interface with timekeeping and scheduling data, enabling absence capture to feed into payroll and roster planning processes.
Integrations were an explicit part of the architecture, with Workday integrated to Kronos Workforce Dimensions for timekeeping and schedule management. Kronos integrations used Transaction Assistant to synchronize employee master data, work schedules, time and absence transactions, and supported Kronos TimeKeeping, Schedule Planner, Employee Self Service, Forecasting, Dataviews and Reports. The Workday environment also formed part of a payroll integration landscape that included Workday Global Payroll integration with ADP Global View and Streamline integration for downstream payroll processing.
Operational coverage included Telstra HR and payroll functions with implementation activity noted at Telstra sites including the Melbourne office at 242 Exhibition St, Melbourne VIC. Governance emphasis focused on Workday optimization and integrations, plus Kronos system administration activities such as business structure configuration, access profiles, employment terms, pay code distribution and combination rules to maintain consistent absence and time data flows across systems.

The Intalio Nyxeia BPM implementation leveraged Business Process Management capabilities including a BPM engine for workflow orchestration, electronic forms to eliminate paper inputs, rules based routing for approvals, and KPI alerting for project status. Configuration centered on automated approval paths, escalation rules, and real time dashboards to surface KPI alerts across concurrent rollout projects.
Operational coverage focused on tower project teams and central project control functions within Telstra's Australian rollout program, providing project level visibility and event driven alerts to operations staff. The Whisper application centralized process orchestration and monitoring across project portfolios to support day to day execution of rollout tasks.
Governance was strengthened through formalized approval workflows, audit trails, and standardized process controls implemented in Intalio Nyxeia BPM to align execution across sites. Outcomes documented in the case study include reduced errors and faster approvals, with real time visibility and KPI alerts cited as key operational improvements during the 4G rollout.
