In 2017, Tesla implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, replacing Microsoft Dynamics AX as part of a back office consolidation following the SolarCity integration. The Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations deployment served as the company ERP Financial platform supporting Tesla finance and accounting functions across the integrated business units.
Deployment focused on configuring core ERP Financial modules, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, procurement, and cash and bank management within Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. Configuration work aligned chart of accounts and financial close processes and included standard financial workflows and controls typical of an ERP Financial implementation.
The cutover and stabilization included data migration activities from Microsoft Dynamics AX and parallel support for Great Plains data while the transition progressed, with SQL used for troubleshooting and correcting data issues during migration and go live. The inhouse Development team continued to manage customizations for Microsoft Dynamics AX while ERP administrators executed quality assurance testing and reconciliations to validate functional parity and data integrity between systems.
Governance emphasized structured QA cycles, end user training, and process hardening to prevent recurring data errors, with ERP System Administrators taking responsibility for training, data correction workflows, and release quality assurance. Operational ownership was established within finance to sustain Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as the centralized ERP Financial system.

Governance is oriented around role based access and recruiting workflow controls, enabling hiring teams to manage requisitions, approvals, and candidate progression inside Avature ATS. Process changes focus on centralizing candidate lifecycle management and standardizing pipeline stages within the Applicant Tracking System used on Tesla's website.
