In 2015, Toast implemented Oracle NetSuite ERP to centralize its financial system and establish a single source of truth for general ledger and tax reporting. The Oracle NetSuite ERP deployment was positioned to support core financials and ledger activity in support of Tax, Financial Systems, Engineering, R&D, and Business Systems teams across the company.
Configuration work centered on financial management and general ledger capabilities typical of ERP Financial platforms, with explicit focus on tax reporting data flows. Toast staffed a Tax Technology Lead role to own configuration, implementation, and evolution of tax engines, and to define technical requirements that link the Oracle NetSuite ERP transaction and ledger data to tax calculation engines.
Integrations included the Vertex O Series on demand tax engine and Avalara as explicit tax technologies managed by the Tax Technology Lead, with design, development, testing, and operational support responsibilities described for those connections. Implementation scope included extracting transactional datasets from the ERP, reviewing XML and JSON logs from tax engine exchanges, troubleshooting returned error codes, and reconciling state and local audit extractions back to NetSuite financial records.
Governance and operational controls emphasized adherence to internal SDLC processes, testing to confirm business rule conformance, documentation of configuration and controls, and training for Tax, Business Systems, and R&D teams. The role also included ongoing monitoring and maintenance of tax engines, identifying tax technology risks and opportunities, and coordinating with SaaS support teams to manage issue resolution and sustain the tax reporting integration with Oracle NetSuite ERP.

The implementation was managed by the Talent Operations team and the People team Technology Operations organization within Shared Services, with functional reporting into the Sr Manager of HR Systems and dotted line collaboration with the In Country India People Team Sr Manager of HR Shared Services.
Workday Absence Management was configured alongside core Workday HCM components and supported by an HRIS Analyst who performed hands on configuration for business processes, notifications, condition rules, and configurable security. Operational coverage included the HR service center, Talent Operations, payroll adjacent processes, benefits administration, performance review cycles, merit and bonus workflows, open enrollment windows, and headcount planning events. Integrations were described as connected to associated integrated systems through EIBs and scheduled reporting, with the HRIS Analyst providing day to day technical operations such as troubleshooting, testing, and peer review for break fix and new configurations to ensure continuity across those systems.
Governance centered on SOX compliance, configurable security assignments for new hires and job changes, and structured support for semi annual Workday releases including research and demonstration of new functionality. The role produced enablement materials including user guides and product videos to support partner teams and provided customer support via email, Slack, and ServiceNow tickets, embedding absence management into established HR workflows and operational procedures.
