In 2019 Transurban implemented Workday Financial Management as its ERP Financial solution, positioning Workday Financial Management as the primary financial system for corporate finance and Transurban’s North American business. The deployment was framed to centralize core accounting and financial control processes under a single vendor platform while maintaining a federated support model between North American operations and Australian ERP teams.
Workday Financial Management was configured to support standard ERP Financial capabilities including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, procurement-related financial workflows, cash management and financial reporting. Configuration emphasis reflected typical ERP Financial functional modules, with business process design and process maps used to align finance, procurement and accounting workflows to the system capabilities.
The implementation was managed alongside other applications within Transurban’s ERP ecosystem, with integrations and application ownership overseen by an ERP Process and Platform Specialist role responsible for release planning and coordination. Operational coverage explicitly included North American business units, with the specialist acting as the primary interface to Australian-based ERP support and functional teams to handle cross-regional issues and continuity of service.
Governance focused on formal release management, change control and an agreed service catalogue, with the ERP Process and Platform Specialist owning release execution, prioritization of enhancement requests, stakeholder communications and escalation through to resolution. The program emphasized process governance, assessment of cross-functional impacts and business readiness planning for each Workday Financial Management release.

In 2019 Transurban implemented Workday Absence Management. Workday Absence Management is in the Absence and Leave Management category and was configured as part of Transurban’s broader Workday footprint to centralize time off and absence processes within People & Culture.
The rollout included configuration and enhancement of modules across Core HCM, Absence, Performance, Recruiting, Onboarding, Talent, Security and Reporting, reflecting an integrated HCM architecture. Implementation work emphasized configuration of absence plans, eligibility rules, approval workflows and calculated fields, and the use of Workday Absence Management for absence lifecycle management and policy enforcement.
Operational integration focused on connecting absence workflows to Core HCM records and reporting, with explicit support for integrations, security administration and reporting. The program partnered product owners, technical teams and an application management service to coordinate releases, manage incidents and maintain ongoing integrations between Workday Absence Management and the broader ERP ecosystem.
Governance centered on business process redesign, workflow simplification, automation and release coordination managed by People & Culture. The implementation also included security administration, calculated field development, incident and problem management, roadmap shaping and capability uplift through mentoring of new developers across onshore and offshore teams.

In 2013, Transurban implemented IBM Maximo to provide Enterprise Asset Management for maintenance and asset lifecycle functions. The deployment targeted core asset and maintenance operations supporting Transurban teams in the Greater Melbourne Area and corporate maintenance governance.
IBM Maximo was configured to manage Functional Locations, Assets, Items, Inventory, Inventory balance, Preventive Maintenance, Work Orders, Job Plans, Routes and Attachments, with additional configuration for Contracts service and Warranty management. The implementation included Service Request and Work Order workflows, Escalations, Roles, Communication Templates, Actions and Relationships to enforce operational processes and work execution standards.
The program used Maximo Integration Framework and MIF driven imports, creating Object Structures, Services, Channels, External system definitions, Endpoints and imported file feeds to populate the application. Data load templates and Migration Manager were used to migrate Locations, Assets, Items, Inventory, Preventive Maintenance, Work Orders, Job Plans, Routes and Attachments, with cleansing and transformation performed using MS Excel to generate Maximo acceptable formats.
Governance centered on a documented data migration strategy that served as the baseline for the migration, with status reporting of milestones and reconciliation to the Project Manager. Activities included data mapping, data correction and reconciliation, cutover planning and execution, and development of test plans and test cases to validate migrated SR and WO processes.
