In 2010, Unitil Energy Systems implemented IBM AS/400 as an ERP Financial application. The implementation centered on in-house IBM AS/400 environments responsible for utility financial management and interfacing with the SunGard HTE Customer Information System, supporting Unitil's electric and gas billing and finance functions.
Maintenance and modification to the in-house IBM AS/400 estate covered all aspects of system operation, including configuration and customization of financial ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger workflows, and billing interface logic aligned with ERP Financial functional patterns. The work reflected category-aligned activities such as transaction processing, reconciliation workflows, and application-level change management within the AS/400 environment.
From January 2015 Unitil began converting from the HTE CIS system on IBM AS/400 to enQuesta from Systems and Software, a web based customer information system. As part of that transition Unitil repositioned reporting to a Cognos Report Writer, Oracle based, to interface with enQuesta, creating a hybrid reporting and data access architecture during migration.
Governance for the program emphasized in-house maintenance and modification processes and a shift in reporting governance to support the new enQuesta integration. Operational coverage spanned customer information, billing, and finance business functions across Unitil's utility operations, with technical ownership retained internally for AS/400 application lifecycle activities.

In 2010, Unitil Energy Systems implemented the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite as its Asset Performance Management solution. The deployment targeted asset reliability and operations functions and included the Asset Reliability, Operation, NM-DMS ETL and Storm Central modules within Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite.
The implementation configured Asset Reliability workflows and operational dashboards, with Storm Central used for storm response coordination and outage-related workflow orchestration. The NM-DMS ETL module centralized feed processing and data transformation so asset health and operational status could be surfaced in FocalPoint for downstream reporting.
ABB and Obvient Strategies delivered FocalPoint, with Obvient supplying a data integration solution that was integrated with NM-DMS to populate dashboard reports based on Unitil's criteria. The integration architecture emphasized ETL pipelines from NM-DMS into FocalPoint and dashboard orchestration for operational users.
Operational coverage focused on distribution operations and storm response teams, aligning asset performance and outage management workflows through the Asset Performance Management implementation. Governance centered on configuring Unitil defined reporting criteria and managing ETL processes to ensure consistent data lineage from NM-DMS into the Hitachi Ventyx FocalPoint Suite dashboards.
