In 2013, the University of Amsterdam implemented SAP Travel and Expense Management as part of an upgrade to its SAP NetWeaver Portal. The SAP Travel and Expense Management deployment targeted Expense Management and HCM self-service capabilities for employees and managers across the university.
The implementation introduced Web Dynpro for ABAP applications to deliver Employee Self Service and Manager Self Service user interfaces. Functional modules and capabilities designed and implemented included manager self service, employee self service for travel expenses, leave request processing, employee profile maintenance, and time registration using CATS.
Architecturally the work integrated SAP NetWeaver Business Client for HCM applications with the upgraded NetWeaver Portal to provide consolidated access for role-based HR workflows. The deployment consolidated front-end HCM access via NWBC and portal entry points, aligning SAP Travel and Expense Management with existing SAP portal infrastructure and HCM application services.
Governance and process changes focused on instrumenting manager approval flows and employee time and expense capture within the new Web Dynpro applications. The project deliverable emphasized a structured rollout of manager self service and employee self service modules and the operationalization of Expense Management and time registration in SAP for HR and finance process owners.
