In 2024, Vivendi deployed the Ethereum Platform from Ethereum Foundation as a Blockchain Platform to authenticate and protect digital content produced across its group of media businesses. The implementation anchored C2PA-format provenance assertions onto the Ethereum public blockchain to generate verifiable certificates of origin for press releases and other corporate documents.
The Ethereum Platform implementation leverages the C2PA standard for content provenance and the Click solution built with the Nodle Connecting SDK to manage certificate issuance and user workflows, Vivendi uses the Click SDK to collect provenance metadata and to write cryptographic proofs to the Ethereum public blockchain. This design separates metadata capture and user interaction from onchain anchoring, keeping provenance generation at the edge while persisting immutability proofs onchain.
Operational coverage includes corporate communications and press distribution, editorial archives, marketing and legal functions, with Prisma Media piloting token-gated access for content and Paris Match issuing archival NFTs on external marketplaces as complementary blockchain use cases. Certificates issued via the Ethereum Platform are surfaced through Vivendi’s certification portal at certification.vivendi.com and are verifiable on public explorers such as etherscan.io and blockchain.com.
Governance and industry coordination accompanied the technical work, Vivendi joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity and the Content Authenticity Initiative, and became a member of the League for the Security of Web 3.0 while committing to chair the League’s commission on intellectual property protection. The authenticated press release demonstrates the Ethereum Platform, the C2PA standard and the Click solution working together to provide a simple user experience for journalists and for companies distributing certified content.
