| Ellucian | Legacy | Ellucian Banner ERP | Education ERP | ERP Services and Operations | n/a | 2005 | 2005 |
In 2005 Wichita State University implemented Ellucian Banner ERP to address Education ERP needs for human resources and payroll business functions across campus administrative operations. The Ellucian Banner ERP deployment focused on personnel records, payroll processing, and accounting interface requirements tied to institutional HR and finance workflows.
The implementation included a comprehensive human resources and payroll data conversion, with data moved from VSAM and DL/I database environments into an ORACLE database environment as part of the Ellucian Banner ERP rollout. The team architected and wrote personnel, payroll, and accounting interface systems to transform Banner data for downstream consumption and batch loading, aligning Banner data structures with state reporting formats.
Integrations were explicit and technical, Banner data feeds were prepared for loading into the State of Kansas PeopleSoft HR and Accounting systems, and an employee data extract project formatted and loaded employee records into Wichita State University’s data warehouse and SunGard’s Operational Data Store. The project included collaboration with Emporia State University to share the State of Kansas interface system design and implementation patterns. Application database administration responsibilities were maintained for non production ORACLE environments to support development and testing.
Project governance emphasized coordination between the Applications Development group and the technical services group to meet schedule commitments, with the senior analyst managing and training a team of Administrative Programmers and Systems Analysts. The team worked directly with institutional customers to identify data and reporting requirements, redesigning data collection and access processes to support operational reporting. Systems documentation was updated and prepared for HTML deployment on Wichita State University’s intranet to support user adoption and operational continuity.
The record notes a successful human resources and payroll data conversion into Ellucian Banner ERP and ongoing operational support activities, including backup support on Budget Information Systems and sustainment of the Banner interfaces and data extracts used for state reporting and institutional analytics.

The implementation emphasized self service analytics so that faculty and administrators could access classroom and student performance metrics without IT mediated extraction workflows.
Anthology Illuminate was configured to provide natural language Q&A over consolidated LMS and institutional data sets and a visual report builder for non technical users, enabling instructors to create actionable visualizations and administrators to run ad hoc queries. The deployment centralized data access and query capabilities, and the implementation approach focused on role based access to reporting and curated data views for academic and student success stakeholders.
Operational coverage targeted Teaching & Learning and Student Success functions, with instructors and academic administrators as primary user groups. The deployment reduced data extraction bottlenecks, empowered instructors with ready visualizations, and sped access to metrics for administrators to support student success.
