SAP Legacy SAP Sustainability Footprint Management Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) EPM n/a 2024 2024
In 2024, WITTE Automotive implemented SAP Sustainability Footprint Management. The deployment in Velbert, Germany uses SAP Sustainability Footprint Management together with the SAP Sustainability Data Exchange application to calculate product carbon footprint and to securely communicate PCF values to customers and suppliers as part of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program. The implementation configures the sustainability engine to perform standardized product carbon footprint calculations and lifecycle assessment workflows, enabling consistent PCF derivation across product families. Configuration includes data modeling and attribution for scope 1, scope 2 and scope 3 emissions, and it embeds new quantitative sustainability performance indicators into purchasing, product development, and sales processes. Architecturally the solution functions as a centralized sustainability data hub within WITTE Automotive's SAP landscape, with explicit connectivity to Catena-X and the SAP Business Network, and with provisions to connect to WBCSD PACT and Together for Sustainability for supplier and value chain data exchange. The SAP Sustainability Data Exchange application is used to mass-distribute PCF values and to secure data exchanges with customers and suppliers, supporting traceability and industry-standard communication across the automotive value chain. Rollout governance emphasized process integration and supplier collaboration, WITTE launched a company-wide sustainability program to integrate the solution into core processes and established KPIs for purchasing, product development and sales to drive ongoing data capture and supplier engagement. This governance approach aligns operational workflows with stakeholder and regulatory requirements and standardizes how PCF values are consolidated and disseminated to business partners. Reported outcomes tied directly to the implementation include 3 to 5 times more efficient PCF calculation compared to manual Microsoft Excel methods, approximately €10,000 savings per PCF calculation compared to hiring external calculation experts, and a 98% reduction in scope 2 emissions following WITTE's switch to green electricity. The combined use of SAP Sustainability Footprint Management and SAP Sustainability Data Exchange centralizes product footprint calculation, standardizes ESG reporting workflows, and enables secure, mass-scale communication of PCF values to customers and suppliers.
