In 2017, OMP implemented CFturbo as a core engineering tool in its product development environment, using the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) application CFturbo for centrifugal pump impeller sizing and positive displacement pump conceptual layout. CFturbo was used for parametric geometry generation and preliminary design verification, with design data exported into self-developed Matlab codes for automated optimization and verification. CFD calculations were performed using Pumplinx and structural checks including static and fatigue analysis were executed in CREO Simulate, demonstrating an integrated CAD to simulation workflow centered on CFturbo outputs.
The implementation was concentrated in the Research and Development function at O.M.P. Officine Mazzocco Pagnoni S.r.l., Funo, Bologna, Italy, and supported workstreams across design engineering, CFD, structural analysis, and experimental test validation. Engineering processes were structured to link CFturbo geometry parameterization to 1D model development for Gerotor and variable displacement pumps, to genetic algorithm optimization code for journal bearing, vane and Gerotor port shape tuning, and to physical test campaigns for pump performance and spool valve design verification. This configuration positioned CFturbo as the primary Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tool driving iterative design, simulation, and experimental validation workflows within OMP R&D.
