Blue Bird Corporation | Automotive | 1945 | $1.3B | United States | LightSource Labs | LightSource | Sourcing | 2024 | n/a |
In 2024 Blue Bird Corporation implemented LightSource as a Sourcing application within its procurement organization. The initial deployment targeted procurement workflows managed from Fort Valley, Georgia, United States, with hybrid work patterns for buyers and commodity managers and direct operational ownership by the Supply Chain Purchase Specialist role.
LightSource was configured to support Project Management, RFQs, and Supplier Discovery capabilities, with sourcing workflows for contract orchestration and supplier portfolio management. Configuration work emphasized supplier segmentation and RFQ orchestration for Polymer, Wood and Glass commodities, and embedded purchasing processes to capture packaging, payment terms, and MOQ analyses as part of procurement events.
Operational coverage included a managed supplier portfolio exceeding $40M across 60 plus suppliers, and rollout focused on buyers and commodity managers responsible for Polymer, Wood, Glass and miscellaneous parts. The implementation included hands-on training led by internal procurement staff to institutionalize use of LightSource for project-based sourcing, supplier discovery, and RFQ execution, and involved cross-functional collaboration with Finance and Planning teams to align payment and supply planning decisions.
Governance and process changes were driven by buyer-led adoption and training, establishing workflow ownership for RFQs, supplier selection, and contract terms within procurement. Reported outcomes tied directly to sourcing activities within LightSource include $800K annual savings from re-sourcing at-risk suppliers, $600K annual savings from converting expendable packaging to returnable racks, and $820K non-PPV annual savings through revised payment terms and reduced MOQs, with noted improvements in on-time delivery and quality.
