Centro De Supercomputacion De Galicia Spain | Non Profit | 60 | $4M | Spain | In-House Applications | MeteoSIX | Geographic Information System | 2009 | n/a |
In 2009, Centro De Supercomputacion De Galicia Spain participated as the high performance computing and hosting node for the MeteoSIX implementation. MeteoSIX is a Geographic Information System used to manage and disseminate meteorological and oceanographic information for Galicia, Spain, and Centro De Supercomputacion De Galicia Spain provided processing, storage and web processing services to support MeteoGalicia's GIS and model dissemination.
The deployment architecture leveraged CESGA's high performance compute and storage infrastructure to run processing pipelines for numerical weather and ocean models, persistent storage for large spatio-temporal datasets, and web processing services for map delivery and model distribution. Functional capabilities implemented included batch model processing, spatial data hosting, and web mapping and web processing workflows aligned with Geographic Information System operations, supporting infrastructure, GIS and environmental data management workloads.
Integrations were explicitly focused on interfacing with MeteoGalicia's GIS and model dissemination systems to enable public and research access to processed meteorological and oceanographic datasets. Operational coverage centered on Galicia, Spain, with CESGA operating as the hosting node responsible for processing, storage management and service availability. By 2012 the collaboration had enabled more efficient processing and distribution of large meteorological and oceanographic datasets for public and research use.
Governance was organized around a hosted node collaboration model, with CESGA responsible for infrastructure operations and service provisioning to support MeteoGalicia workflows, and operational governance concentrated on processing pipelines, data lifecycle management and web processing service uptime. The implementation positioned Centro De Supercomputacion De Galicia Spain as an infrastructure provider for MeteoSIX Geographic Information System services rather than a commercial software vendor.

Galicia | Government | 88000 | $14.5B | Spain | In-House Applications | MeteoSIX | Geographic Information System | 2015 | n/a |
In 2015, Galicia deployed MeteoSIX, a Geographic Information System for the management and dissemination of meteorological and oceanographic information produced by the Galician Department of Environment, Land and Infraestructures through MeteoGalicia. The implementation was scoped to establish a Spatial Data Infrastructure aligned with the INSPIRE directive, explicitly positioning MeteoSIX as the regional SDI node for meteorological and oceanographic services across Galicia.
MeteoSIX configuration implements Open Geospatial Consortium web service standards and Sensor Web Enablement components, including Sensor Observation Service, Sensor Alert Service, Sensor Planning Service, Observations and Measurements and SensorML. The platform exposes processing capabilities via Web Processing Service interfaces, supporting both SOAP and REST interaction patterns, and includes a testing framework for web processing services to validate algorithms and operational pipelines.
Operational deployment placed components and nodes at MeteoGalicia as the primary data server and at the Supercomputing Center of Galicia CESGA as the high performance computing provider for processing workloads. The rollout encompassed web-based dissemination channels to the broader community of users and internal management applications for regional operational teams, integrating data ingestion, alerting, processing and publication workflows across institutional sites in Galicia.
Governance and quality controls were implemented through validation, tests and quality assurance activities to certify SDI services and node components in MeteoGalicia and CESGA. MeteoSIX helps improve the dissemination of meteorological and oceanographic information and provides a framework for testing web processing services, supporting business functions in data management, operational forecasting and public information dissemination.

Meteogalicia Spain | Government | 120 | $5M | Spain | In-House Applications | MeteoSIX | Geographic Information System | 2009 | n/a |
In 2009 MeteoGalicia developed and coordinated MeteoSIX, deploying a Geographic Information System to provide a Spatial Data Infrastructure for dissemination of meteorological and oceanographic information across Galicia Spain. MeteoSIX was delivered as an in-house application to expose numerical model outputs and observational products for public consumption and operational use.
The architecture centers on an SDI approach that publishes model outputs via web services and supports a mobile app for citizen and stakeholder access. Functional capabilities implemented include geospatial data management, map and layer services, time series model output publishing, metadata cataloging, and interoperable service endpoints consistent with Geographic Information System best practices.
Integrations emphasize web service endpoints and data interoperability to enable third party applications and researcher access, with service catalogs and API style access used for model output distribution. Operational coverage focused on the Galicia regional footprint, serving regional government, public services, research users, and external developers through public web services and a mobile offering.
Governance and rollout were coordinated by MeteoGalicia with a project start in 2009 and public services and the mobile offering available by approximately 2012, with attention to service metadata and reuse policies. The implementation improved regional data access and interoperability and enabled third party applications and researcher access.
