In 2014, Sobeys Canada implemented NCR Voyix RealPOS. The Point Of Sale deployment targeted the 122-store chain and was installed in 41 stores during a phased rollout that began with a pilot store in November 1995.
Implementation used an open platform architecture to enable direct integration of the frequent-shopper program into NCR Voyix RealPOS, allowing capture of customer purchasing data and customer specific promotions at checkout. Functional capabilities scoped included loyalty card lookup for point balances and promotions, labor scheduling support, and item performance reporting accessible to the POS. The system was described as PC based with 14 inch color monitors and thermal printers that print receipts at 600 lines per minute.
Integration flow was explicit, once a customer’s frequent-shopper card is scanned a message is sent to Sobeys’ host computer to retrieve the customer’s point balance and eligible promotions, that information is transmitted from the host to the server located in the store and then to the POS handling the transaction. The open architecture allowed real time access to purchase information across stores so customers could shop in different locations and receive up to date points on each store purchase. Vendor details indicate NCR provided the POS solution.
Governance and rollout were phased, the loyalty program was planned to be live by the fall in stores already equipped with the new POS and to continue integration as the POS system was rolled out chainwide, with an overall rollout expected to complete within 13 months.
