In 2010, Linde US managed the compensation workstream of a global implementation of SumTotal Softscape for Performance and Goal Management. The initiative established global strategy, design and operationalization for competitive compensation programs and a global career framework to support consistent talent and pay practices across the enterprise.
The implementation of SumTotal Softscape focused on compensation management capabilities, including a global career framework with consistent job and level descriptions, salary structure design, short term incentive STI and long term incentive LTI structure design, and annual pay administration workflows. The workstream also included targeted redesigns of several countries sales compensation programs and governance for senior executive compensation, enabling standardized annual review and competitive offer processes.
Operational scope extended to position competitiveness methods across 25 to 30 countries, with tight relationships maintained with external survey vendors and comprehensive knowledge of their data intelligence offerings to inform pay benchmarking and position review processes. The SumTotal Softscape HRMS solution was deployed as the central platform for recording career frameworks, compensation elements and pay administration rules, with interactions coordinated between headquarters and local compensation teams.
Governance activities included creating standardized job and level descriptions, establishing salary and incentive governance rules, and managing a centralized rollout and training program. Training was delivered to all HR Directors and local compensation staff through Linde US first ever centralized global program at headquarters and continued via virtual methods, supporting adoption of SumTotal Softscape and the new compensation administration processes.

The SumTotal Softscape deployment established structured annual and ongoing performance review cycles, centralized goal setting and competency assessment processes to support HR and line managers.
