Delta Air Lines Transportation 103000 $61.6B United States NetApp NetApp Cloud Storage Cloud Storage 2014 n/a In 2014, Delta Air Lines implemented NetApp Cloud Storage to consolidate and centrally manage Cloud Storage across its enterprise storage and backup environments. The engagement began in August 2014 at the Eagan, MN site and included responsibility for engineering, health and upkeep of all managed storage infrastructure while leading a ten person offshore team for technical, implementation and procedural ownership. NetApp Cloud Storage deployments focused on storage consolidation, standards and reference architecture for storage, backup and DR environments. The engineering team created project work plans for infrastructure changes, handled code and feature upgrades for business critical systems, and contributed to a business model intended to reduce operating costs. A DR plan reduced recovery time for a business critical, consumer facing database from 4 hours to 30 minutes or less. The implementation included explicit cloud and hybrid integrations, operating multiple AWS accounts with several VPCs for non production environments. Engineers implemented and operated solutions on Amazon S3, EBS, Storage Gateway services, EC2, EFS and CloudWatch while linking those cloud services to NetApp Cloud Storage for backup, replication and recovery workflows. Operational coverage emphasized non production migration, integration and cost control across cloud object and block storage layers. Governance and procurement work included RFQ, RFP and POC processes for midrange storage infrastructure and creation of standards and reference architecture documentation to guide rollout. The team worked directly with business groups to make design recommendations based on technical and budgetary requirements, and managed procedural changes to support ongoing storage, backup and disaster recovery operations.
