NedBank | Banking and Financial Services | 25954 | $63.6B | South Africa | ACI Worldwide | ACI Enterprise Payments Platform | Payment Processing | 2022 | n/a | In 2022, NedBank implemented the ACI Enterprise Payments Platform from ACI Worldwide as part of a payments modernization programme, adopting the Payment Processing platform to consolidate its retail and wholesale payments foundation. The initiative explicitly included a move to ISO20022 messaging and the deployment of a single, end to end payments hub to support consumer, merchant, and corporate payment flows. The ACI Enterprise Payments Platform deployment encompassed core modules including ACI Issuing, ACI High Value Real Time Payments, ACI Low Value Real Time Payments, ACI Acquiring, and ACI Fraud Management, positioning the platform as an integrated payments processing and orchestration layer. Architecture emphasis in the implementation focused on an end to end payments hub topology to centralize clearing, settlement, and scheme connectivity across multiple payment types. Functionally, NedBank implemented ACI Low Value Real Time Payments to enable real time mobile payments and to connect to global real time schemes, while ACI Fraud Management was configured to provide enterprise fraud detection and prevention using advanced machine learning, behavioral biometrics, predictive analytics, and rules based detection. These capabilities were mapped to support issuing, acquiring, high value settlement, low value retail traffic, and enterprise wide fraud monitoring. Operational coverage for the implementation spans NedBank’s wholesale and retail banking operations, and aligns with the bank’s footprint in South Africa and through subsidiaries in Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. Business functions impacted include retail payments, corporate and merchant acquiring, card issuing, real time mobile payments, and centralized fraud risk management. Governance and process changes introduced standardization of payment messaging to ISO20022 and centralized payments governance to accelerate product rollout and operational control. NedBank stated expected outcomes from the programme include quicker time to market for new payment methods, reduced total cost of ownership, increased speed of innovation, and improved preparedness to compete in future payments landscapes. | |
