In 2021 Afterpay implemented Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations as its core ERP Financial application. The deployment was scoped for the companys corporate finance and accounting functions and drew on internal resources alongside Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Consultant and Solution Architect roles staffed between June 2020 and June 2021 in Melbourne, Victoria.
The implementation concentrated on standard ERP Financial modules, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, procurement, and revenue management, configured to support Afterpays professional services billing and multi-entity financial consolidation needs. Configuration work emphasized chart of accounts design, financial close orchestration, period control, and automation of routine accounting workflows consistent with Finance and Operations capabilities.
Architecturally the program aligned with Microsoft vendor technology, provisioning Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations on Microsoft cloud infrastructure and designing for modular, service oriented financial processing. The work was organized to integrate transaction processing across finance and accounting touch points, and to enable standardized financial reporting and audit trails across Afterpays Australia operations.
Governance and rollout were structured around a solution architecture led approach, with the Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Consultant and Solution Architect driving design decisions, cross functional finance and IT working groups governing configuration changes, and staged cutover sequencing to minimize finance close disruption. Documentation and process mapping supported operational handover to finance teams and established ongoing application stewardship protocols.

The implementation covered departmental payroll operations across Finance and HR functions in Australia, New Zealand and Asia, aligning payroll processing with broader financial close activities.
Governance was structured under the Global Payroll Manager with a Payroll Manager, ANZ overseeing a small regional team to execute monthly payroll cycles and reconciliations.
