| SAP | Legacy | SAP S/4 HANA | ERP Financial | ERP Financial Management | TCS | 2021 | 2021 |
In 2021, AGL Energy, Ltd. implemented SAP S/4 HANA as its core ERP Financial platform. The deployment consolidated over 50 disparate enterprise resource planning applications into a single cloud based core to standardize processes across generation, procurement, maintenance, and finance and to provide a consistent technology foundation for acquisitions and partner integrations.
The SAP S/4 HANA implementation included core financials, procurement orchestration, plant maintenance workflows, and mobile enabled field service capabilities. AGL built mobile health and safety tooling on SAP Business Technology Platform that prepopulates form data and unifies approvals, and the company developed the AGL One iOS employee app using SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite to provide contextual access to tools from anywhere.
Integration architecture centered on SAP S/4 HANA as the cloud based system of record, with SAP Integration Suite and SAP Extension Suite providing API led connectivity to SAP Fieldglass and SAP Ariba for contingent workforce and procurement visibility. Tata Consultancy Services TCS is listed as the implementation partner coordinating the program and integrations. The platform spans generation plants, multiple warehouses and procurement channels, and supports operational shifts between Australia and India when required.
Governance changes focused on process standardization, unified approvals, and a continuous data feedback loop to refine operational controls. Training and automated workflows enabled rapid scaling to remote work and cross site staffing adjustments, while procurement and maintenance sequencing was aligned to ensure parts availability and contingent worker assignment with faster supplier payment flows.
Explicit outcomes reported include a 60 percent reduction in steps for job site environmental analyses and a reduction in month end financial closings from days to hours, improved cross site inventory reuse, faster work completion rates with fewer reschedules, and recognition via an SAP Innovation Award for the AGL One app built on SAP S/4 HANA.

In 2017, AGL Energy, Ltd. implemented Workday Benefits as part of an organisation wide rebuild of ERP systems. The Workday Benefits deployment was delivered alongside a broader Workday footprint that included HCM, Recruitment, Compensation, Advanced Compensation, Learning, Talent and Performance, positioning Workday Benefits at the center of employee lifecycle and rewards administration.
Configuration and design work for Workday Benefits focused on benefit plan configuration, eligibility rules, enrollment workflows and lifecycle event handling, consistent with typical Benefits Administration functionality. Design activities explicitly incorporated the job framework and contingent worker management requirements, ensuring benefit assignments and eligibility aligned to roles across operational assets.
Governance and delivery were led by a Business Lead who managed a direct team of six, embedding Agile working methodologies to support iterative testing and continuous improvement. The implementation team included lead SMEs responsible for testing and validation across Benefits, Talent and Learning domains, executing end to end test cycles and stakeholder acceptance for benefits related processes.
Operational coverage included Melbourne, Australia and extended across AGL operational assets where role based benefit assignments were required. Workday Benefits was integrated within the internal Workday suite, with configuration and workflows coordinated with Workday HCM and Compensation modules to centralize Benefits Administration and align benefits processes with payroll and talent controls.

In 2023, AGL Energy, Ltd. implemented EtaPRO APR in an Asset Performance Management deployment for its Bayswater and Loy Yang generating units. Toshiba and EtaPRO commissioned EtaPRO thermal digital twins under the VirtualPlant offering to support real-time benchmarking and optimisation of unit performance, efficiency and emissions for plant operations in Australia.
The deployment centered on EtaPRO APR and associated VirtualPlant thermal digital twin models, configured to perform continuous thermal performance simulation, asset health monitoring, and anomaly detection across steam turbine and boiler thermal envelopes. Configuration work included model calibration against operational telemetry and setup of anomaly-detection and alarm logic to surface deviations in efficiency and emissions vectors, aligned with Asset Performance Management functional workflows.
Integrations were scoped to ingest on-site operational data streams from plant instrumentation and control sources to feed the VirtualPlant models and EtaPRO APR analytics. Operational coverage focused on generation plant operations teams at Bayswater and Loy Yang, enabling unit-level real-time benchmarking and comparative optimisation across generating units within AGL Energy, Ltd.
Toshiba acted as the implementation partner alongside EtaPRO, coordinating commissioning activities and handover to plant operations. The implementation delivered live thermal digital twin capability via EtaPRO APR to enable continuous benchmarking and optimisation of unit performance, efficiency and emissions for AGL Energy, Ltd.
