| SUSE Group | Legacy | SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications | Operating System (OS) | PaaS | n/a | 2012 | 2013 | In 2012, AKWEL implemented SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications. The deployment used SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications within the Operating System (OS) category to provide the infrastructure foundation for SAP HANA ECC6 and SAP Solution Manager workloads, including SAP HANA Studio and SAP Cockpit components across the company SAP landscape. The implementation supported core SAP functional operations managed by the SAP administrator, including HANA ECC6 administration, SAP Solution Manager 7.2 configuration, backup and restoration procedures, account management and user roles, STMS transport management, system copy and refresh activities, and SAP notes application for regional adaptations. Configuration work focused on operating system tuning consistent with SLES for SAP Applications to support database and application level availability and performance. Architecturally the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications deployment ran in a virtualized VMware vSphere and vCenter environment and coexisted with Redhat and Windows server estates as part of a heterogeneous datacenter footprint. Backup and recovery processes were integrated with TSM backups managed via IBM Spectrum Protect, and the SLES instances were aligned with standard virtualization orchestration and host management workflows. Operational governance addressed cross‑regional needs, with SAP notes and configuration adjustments applied to adapt systems for Portugal, Spain, Turkey and China. Change control and release activities were organized around STMS transports and system refresh procedures, and ongoing responsibilities included performance monitoring, system administration and role based account governance to support the SAP application stack. |
